Warrior Ethos

Spiritual Disciplines for Effective Warfare

The battles we face in this life are not merely physical; they extend into the spiritual realm. Spiritual warfare is a daily reality for every believer, a constant struggle against the forces of darkness that seek to undermine our faith and hinder our journey toward God. Many Christians feel overwhelmed, unsure of how to navigate these unseen battles. This book seeks to equip you with the practical spiritual disciplines needed to overcome life's challenges and live a victorious Christian life. Drawing upon the rich wisdom of scripture, we will explore the power of non-carnal weapons: prayer, scripture study, solitude, meditation, fasting, worship, servanthood, simplicity, and journaling. These are not merely suggestions, but essential tools forged in the fires of faith, tools that have been used by believers for centuries to dismantle spiritual strongholds. This is not a theoretical exercise, but a practical guide designed to help you integrate these disciplines into your daily life, creating a pattern of faith that strengthens your relationship with God and equips you for the spiritual battles ahead. I pray that these pages will serve as a source of encouragement, guidance, and unwavering support as you embark on this journey of spiritual growth and transformation, leading you into a life of victory in Christ.

About the author

John A. Stout

John A. Stout is a grandfather to three of the most amazing grandsons and one granddaughter that ever were born, husband to the most beautiful wife that ever lived, and father of two awesome men of God.  John is a pastor, teacher, missionary, comedian, combat veteran, talented speaker, writer, and musician.

Pastor John is the founder and CEO of Runner's Refuge Ministries, a homeless street church with locations all across the southwest United States. Through 28 years of church ministry, military service, and missionary work, John has seen plenty of spiritual warfare. It is through these hard-fought battles and intense scripture study that John has developed these spiritual disciplines that allow him to fight the enemy and, through the Grace of Jesus Christ, win the battle.

Many people approach Spiritual Warfare without their armor and only being taught the weapon of prayer, and then wonder why they are losing the battle. The Bible teaches us there are many spiritual weapons available to us and many spiritual disciplines for us to practice. These spiritual disciplines help us to hone the weapons of our warfare and prove our armor before we face the battle so that when the day comes and the enemy is at our door step we are able to make a good warfare defeating every attack that comes our way.

John holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Southwestern Assembly of God University (Now Nelson University), a Bachelor of Arts in Church Ministries from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Now Nelson University), and a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Johnson and Wales University.
